Subsurface Utility Engineering

Metzger + Willard, Inc. (MWI) provides subsurface utility engineering (SUE) services, helping clients avoid construction delays caused by utility conflicts. The SUE process combines civil engineering, surveying, and geophysics. MWI SUE technicians use several technologies including vacuum extraction and ground penetrating radar (GPR) to determine utility locations. Depending on clients’ accuracy requirements, MWI can provide ASCE Standard 38-02 Quality Levels A through D.

Benefits of SUE include

  • Unnecessary utility relocations are avoided
  • Reduced construction cost
  • Reduced construction delays
  • Reduced contractor claims
